The convention is less than a week away!

In case you missed Tim Sheehy's welcome message in this week's attendee e-newsletter, here it is . . .

"We are thrilled so many of you are planning to join us at the intersection of water and fun for high-quality learning, networking and hopefully some well-deserved relaxation.

Each year when I attend the convention, one of the things I look forward to is truly experiencing the city in which it’s hosted.  So get your copy of the insider’s guide – the best of the best, what’s not to be missed.  It’s my personal Top 21 list of Milwaukee attractions and activities, given the fact that you’re all here to learn from the conference and have limited fun time.  I realize you only have a chance to sample the great destinations on this list, so here’s to making the “high life” easier to enjoy."

Milwaukee & Beer

One thing that typically comes to mind when someone says Milwaukee is beer.  We asked some of our local contacts about their favorite brews and bars.  Lakefront Brewery took the lead with several people suggesting it as a must visit location.

Lakefront Brewery, 1872 N. Commerce Street, 414-372-8800

Tours take place everyday but check it out on a Friday when you can experience their Fish Friday from 4 PM- 9 PM.  Make sure you get there early and check out the Riverwest Stein on tap.  For any Brewers fans, they have Bernie Brewer’s original shack and beer mug from the old County Stadium (Bernie was the mascot who went down a slide from the shack and landed in the beer mug).  Take a 5 minute cab ride from the hotels to get here!

The Harp Irish Pub, 113 E Juneau Ave 414-289-0700

The Milwaukee Ale House, 233 N Water St 414-226-2337

The Yard at the Iron Horse Hotel, 500 W Florida St, 414-274-4766 - just blocks from the new Harley Davidson Museum

All three of these places have outdoor patios.  So if the weather's nice, there's no better place than to enjoy a beer on the Milwaukee River.  The Yard which is a Harley Davidson themed hotel and bar was voted the Best Outdoor Patio in the newest issue of Milwaukee Magazine

Cafe Hollander, 2608 Downer Ave, (414) 963-6366

The environment is great whether you are looking to sit inside or outside. They have a wide variety of beers and they are very knowledgeable about the different kinds of brews. If you are in the mood for some food with your beer...try their Homemade Mac and Cheese, like mom used to make. Yummy! The beer also compliments well with their FANTASTIC bloody marys.  Take a 5-10 minutes cab ride from the hotels to get to Café Hollander.

Old German Beer Hall, 1009 North Old World 3rd Street, (414) 226-2728

Relive the spirit of an original Houfbrauhuas Munchen at the Old German Beer Hall in the heart of Milwaukee and experience a bit of Bavarian culture.  If you’re looking for some authentic German meat and beer this is the place for you.  Bratwurst is served as they should be; on Rye bread with Sauerkraut and that’s it.  Enjoy hand-crafted beer in a beer stein served by beirmaidens while trying your hand at the slightly addicting nail game; a great way to pass the time that involves a hammer and a metal mallet.

Climate Prosperity Issue Forum

Lisa Itamura on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 11:37:12 pm

Remember the days before the Internet, email and smart phones?  It’s hard to function in business these days without information technology tools.  Green technology may end up being a lot like that – a technology that becomes part of a business’ standard operations, something an organization can use to save money and increase revenues/productivity.

How can regions capture some of the opportunities that are emerging from the green sector?  We’ve invited some experts to Milwaukee to help answer this question: Doug Henton, Andre Pettigrew and Eric Schneider, who have been working for several years on creating green opportunity, green savings and green talent for several regions around the country.  They will share their experiences and insights based on their work with the Climate Prosperity Project at an issue forum on Thursday, August 5 in Milwaukee.  Doug will provide a national perspective, as well as talk about some new tools that are available for regions that want to generate green-based prosperity, while Andre and Eric will focus on what’s worked in their respective regions – Denver and St. Louis.

This issue forum is part of a full track of regional strategies sessions that we’re offering throughout the convention this year to help keep you ahead of the curve on regional practices.  Check out the blog post from May 25 for more information on these sessions.
