We know you’re a star at your organization, but are you a star on stage, too? ACCE is revamping its awards program and wants you to be a part of the show! Whether you’re a musician, actor, dancer, juggler, comedian, magician, celebrity impersonator, etc., we want your talent. To apply, submit a CD, DVD, video, pictures and a detailed written description of your act by Monday, May 5, 2008, to:

The show will take place at 6:30 pm on August 1, 2008 at the William Penn Ballroom in the Omni Hotel.  Each act will have a total of 3 to 5 minutes to perform.  There will be a short dress rehearsal before hand if needed. All acts will be screened prior to selection so please make sure all material is appropriate and non offensive.  If you have any questions please contact Nicole Gentry at ngentry@acce.org.

Peer Networking Dinners or Pittsburgh Pirates Ballgame Outing

Wednesday, July 30, 7:00 p.m.
Start networking on the first night of the convention as you enjoy dinner with your peers in Pittsburgh’s hot restaurants. Or, catch the Pittsburgh Pirates as they take on the 2007 National League Champions, the Colorado Rockies. Check upcoming emails for sign-up details.

Convention Party at Heinz Field

Thursday, July 31, 7:00 p.m.
Football is a religion in this part of the country, and so ACCE will host the Convention Party at Heinz Field, home of the five-time Super Bowl Champions, the Pittsburgh Steelers. And, as you party with your peers, don’t miss a visit to the Coca-Cola Great Hall, one of the city’s two football history centers focusing on the rich traditions of the Pittsburgh Panthers and Steelers.

Awards Show & Dinner at the Omni Hotel

Friday, August 1
Awards Presentation & Show, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Reception, 7:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Celebration Dinner, 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

We’re changing it up this year! We’ll begin the evening with an awards show at the Omni William Penn Hotel’s theatre where we’ll recognize achievement in the chamber profession as well as be treated to performances that will complete the evening’s entertainment. Afterwards, we’ll move into the Omni’s breathtaking ballrooms for dinner.

Field Trips

All field trips cost $25 and are limited to 50 people.

The Next Generation of Green Buildings

Thursday, July 31   9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

On this trip, attendees will participate in a behind-the-scenes facilities tour of Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens.

Location:  Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens, Oakland

Learner Outcomes:

  1. See the next generation of green buildings – the Living Building
  2. Learn more about green building development and LEED certified buildings
  3. Learn more about how successful tourism attractions spurs economic development

 

National Robotics Engineering Center

Thursday, July 31   9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

On this trip, attendees will learn more about and tour the National Robotics Engineering Center, part of Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute, the world’s largest robotics research and development organization.

Location:  National Robotics Engineering Center, Lawrenceville

  1. Learn how robotics are changing  business and industry
  2. See strong university/industry partnerships in action
  3. Learn how successful university technology transfer programs can transform a region

 

Using Transportation Assets to Drive Economic Development

Friday, August 1   9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

On this trip, attendees will travel the corridor surrounding Pittsburgh International Airport to see and hear about how companies leverage the airport and infrastructure for success.

Location:  Tour building sites , business parks and new infrastructure around the airport, stopping at (tentative) Dick’s Sporting Goods headquarter offices for a panel presentation.

  1. Learn how to leverage infrastructure construction to drive economic development
  2. Learn how building community partnerships enhance your chances for successful development
  3. Learn how a year-after-year sustained agenda focus is necessary for development success

 

Brownfield Transformations

Friday, August 1   9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

On this trip, attendees will experience The Waterfront, an open-air shopping mall spanning three municipalities housed on the site of a former steel mill.  In addition, attendees will drive through one of southwestern Pennsylvania’s newest urban communities, Summerset at Frick Park. (*Note: portions of the tour will require walking)

Location:  The Waterfront in Homestead & Summerset at Frick Park

Learner Outcomes:

  1. Learn more about the challenges inherent with brownfield redevelopment
  2. Learn more about multi-municipality cooperation and tax-based sharing programs
  3. Learn more about mixed-use & sustainable developments and “new-urbanism”
