Leadership Lexington, CoY 2016 Synopsis 1 - Commerce Lexington Inc.

Commerce Lexington Inc., Category 4 Winner, 2016 Chamber of the Year, Program/Initiative Summary for Synopsis #1 is: "An 11-month leadership development program administered by Commerce Lexington, Leadership Lexington gives participants the opportunity to better understand our city and to prepare for the challenges it faces by learning from today's leaders. Class members gain insight on topics like education, diversity, arts, government, healthcare, public safety, economic development, and more. The program completed in 2015 was the 36th class of Leadership Lexington. More than 1,300 people have graduated from the program since its inception in 1979."

Minority Business Accelerator Program, CoY 2016 Synopsis 2 - Commerce Lexington Inc.

Commerce Lexington Inc., Category 4 Winner, 2016 Chamber of the Year, Program/Initiative Summary for Synopsis #2 is: "Commerce Lexington Inc.'s Minority Business Accelerator was created to accelerate the development of sizable minority business enterprises (MBE's) that have achieved revenues between $250,000 and $6 million and to strengthen the regional minority entrepreneurial community. The program initiates a local corporate MBE partnership strategy to focus the area's largest corporations, school systems, universities, and local government on the positive impact of concentrated spending with local diverse companies. The four Accelerator program participants have achieved $5.6 million in contracts and procurement since the program's launch. A recent contract with a local consultant will help Accelerator members stay on track for success, as well as develop and track accountability metrics for the program.”

Grassroots Alliance, CoY 2016 Synopsis 1 - Association of Washington Business

The Association of Washington Business, State/Province Category Winner, 2016 Chamber of the Year, Program/Initiative Summary for Synopsis #1 is: "An army of advocates. That's what the Association of Washington Business is building with the Grassroots Alliance, a new initiative that achieved major success in just its first year. AWB created the Grassroots Alliance in late 2014 as a way to unite the state chamber of commerce and its local chamber counterparts throughout Washington, tapping into the combined strengths of each group. In 2015, the alliance grew dramatically and notched its first policy win by helping secure passage of a $16 billion statewide transportation package. The effort represents a long-term commitment from AWB and its partners to work together on important public policy issues."

The Association of Washington Business, State/Province Category Winner, 2016 Chamber of the Year, Program/Initiative Summary for Synopsis #2 is: "On June 30, 2015, the U.S. Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im) charter expired. For most Americans, this was not a major development, but for businesses in trade-dependent Washington state who rely on its services, it was a serious setback. The Association of Washington Business redoubled its advocacy efforts, raising awareness of the bank's importance among members of the Congress, the business community and the general public. On Dec. 4, 2015, AWB President Kris Johnson joined U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, U.S. Reps. Denny Heck and Dave Reichert and others at a press conference celebrating the bank's reauthorization."
