ACCE Disability Plans

The possibility of suffering a disabling injury, illness or condition is far greater than most Americans believe.  ACCE offers long and short term disability insurance to the professionals who work for participating ACCE member organizations. Contact an ACCE Benefits Coordinator for more information.

Short Term Disability (STD)

Income protection insurance is something you may think of as "nice to have" but not essential. That's probably because you believe it's unlikely you'll ever become disabled. But there are some statistics that may surprise you:

  • One in 7 workers suffers a disability that lasts more than a week
  • More than half of all American families live from paycheck to paycheck
  • Worker's compensation benefits pay only for disabilities that are a result of accidents that happen on the job, or for illnesses that are work-related
  • Social security replaces a portion of your income only if your disability is "severe" and expected to last a year or more

If you became disabled and were unable to work - even for a short time - the loss of your income could significantly affect the financial security and lifestyle you've worked hard to achieve.

ACCE offers you two plans to choose from that will pay the insured employee up to 60 % of their weekly salary up to $2,500 per week:

  • Plan 1 - the benefit begins on the 31st day and continues for 9 weeks
  • Plan 2 - the benefit begins on the 31st day and continues for 22 weeks

Long Term Disability* (LTD)

This plan covers employees in the event of total disability.

Like the STD, you also have two plans to choose from that will pay the insured employee up to 60% of gross monthly income up to $10,000 per month. This is a great way to supplement your short term disability plan.

  • Plan 1- the benefit begins on the 91st day
  • Plan 2 - the benefit begins on the 181st day

Benefits are payable for the period during which the employee continues to meet the definition of disability up to age 65, but not less than 5 years.  Benefits paid are offset by any other income received during the period of total disability. A condition for which an employee receives treatment for 3 months or less before coverage begins is considered a pre-existing condition and will not be covered for 12 months.

*Note: Pregnancy is considered a disability

Work-life Balance Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

This additional benefit feature is provided to you at no additional cost. This benefit will help your employee's address everyday challenges from workplace stress as well as  family matters like parenting, education, financial and legal questions, addictions and recovery, and emotional health --- providing 24-hour access to professional counselors, including face-to-face visits where appropriate
