Community Peer Groups (CPGs)

ACCE's Community Peer Groups (CPGs) are organized to allow member to connect with chamber professionals at chambers similar to your own when you need them and get information how you want it. Groups are organized by size and demographics, and allow new members on a case by case basis. Current groups include Metro Cities, Major Cities, Emerging Cities, and Destination Cities.

Metro Cities Council

The Metro Cities Council is a networking group for CEOs at chambers respresenting the largest metropolitan areas in the country. Members of this group typically communicate via a group email list and occasional conference calls. In-person meetings occur at least twice a year.

There are a few conditions for membership in the Metro Cities Council:

  • Participants: CEOs only
  • Chamber: Budget of $2 million or higher and represents the entire metro area or the main (original) city within the MSA.
  • Community: Metro area population of 500,000 or higher.

Major Cities Council

The Major Cities Council is comprised of CEOs at chambers representing mid-size cities. In terms of size, Major Cities Council members are one step below Metro Cities Council. Members of this group typically communicate via a group email list and occasional conference calls. In-person meetings occur regularly, perhaps twice a year. Additional meetings and interchanges occur at the regional level - Major Cities Council members in the northeast, for instance.

Demographics for the group include:

  • Participants: CEOs only
  • Chamber: Budget of $1 million or higher.
  • Community: Metro area population of 250,000 - 500,000.

Emerging Cities Council

The Emerging Cities Council is for selected chamber CEOs that typically run the main chamber in small to mid-sized cities. Members of this group communicate via a group email list and occasional conference calls. In-person meetings occur regularly, perhaps twice a year. Additional meetings and interchanges may occur at the regional level and can possibly include a senior staff person at the group's approval. Membership in the group is on a case-by-case basis; while many chambers qualify according to the demographics, overall group size hovers around 40.

Demographics include:

  • Participants: CEOs
  • Chamber: Membership of about 1,000.
  • Community: Population of metro/greater area of 100,000 to 250,000.

Hometown Chambers Council

The Hometown Chambers Council is for selected chamber CEOs that typically run their chamber while wearing a multitude of hats; economic development, advocacy, business development, tourism director. Members of this group communicate via a group email list and occasional conference calls. An in-person meeting will occur at our annual convention for those who are able to attend. Membership in the group is by invitation only.

Demographics include:

  • Participants: CEOs
  • Chamber: Total annual revenue under $450k
  • Community: Population of greater area under 100,000

Destination Cities Council

The Destination Cities Council consists of Chamber CEOs from places that build a significant portion of their economies on tourism and attractions - destination towns, cities and counties.  Members of this group typically communicate via a group email list.  Destination Cities Council members usually meet in person on the Networking Dinner night at the annual convention.  Membership in the group is decided on a case-by-case basis.
