Florida Hometown Democracy, the ballot initiative that would have required voter approval for each new development project, fell 65,182 signatures short of the 611,009 needed to appear on the 2008 ballot. Score one for the Florida Chamber's Floridians For Smarter Growth campaign, which raised $3 million to fight the anti-growth initiative. End of story? Not so much, according to Hometown Democracy's organizers.
