Chamber, community establish Northern Illinois University memorial fund
DeKalb, IL -
The DeKalb and Sycamore Chambers of Commerce in Illinois have established an Northern Illinois University (NIU) Memorial Fund through the DeKalb County Community Foundation following Thursday’s tragic shooting on campus.
The DeKalb and Sycamore chamber boards and staff members join those extending support, prayers and condolences to NIU, according to DeKalb Chamber executive director, Chuck Siebrasse.
“Many people have already come forward expressing the desire to donate funds to help in this situation,” said Siebrasse.
“We have been working with NIU officials and the DeKalb County Community Foundation to establish this memorials fund. Donations may be sent to DCCF, 2600 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178,” he said.
“This tragedy affects all of us in this close-knit community. We are all deeply saddened by the incident and the loss of life of innocent students. NIU is an important and integral part of the Chamber and the city. The tragedy has had a devastating impact throughout the region,” Siebrasse said.
The Chamber has been fielding questions and phone calls from throughout the country following the incident in which six people died, including the shooter.
“We stand ready to offer assistance to Dr. John Peters and the NIU community in any capacity necessary. This is a community that works together and will work together to get through this and provide help where needed,” Siebrasse added.
