Overview of the Chamber Operations Survey

The data for the retention statistics comes directly from the forth annual ACCE Chamber Operations Survey. The 2007-08 edition represents minor modifications from the 2006-07 survey to ensure chambers have better data to use in evaluating their operations. The survey is available at no charge to participants and for purchase by non-participants. Financial, membership and staffing statistics have been calculated from 354 chambers' 2007 program year data in the full survey results website.

Purpose

ACCE is striving to identify chamber profession standards for the statistics most chambers track in their organizations. This Chamber Operations survey is conducted annually during the first quarter and was developed with a full glossary of terms to ensure apples-to-apples comparisons.

Although most of the same questions will be on the ACCE Chamber Operations Survey in subsequent years, the glossary of terms will continue to be fine-tuned and enhanced with examples as ACCE learns from each study.

Survey invitations were emailed to the 1,242 chambers of commerce across the United States and Canada who belong to the American Chamber of Commerce Executives. The survey was administered online, and data from completed surveys was compiled by ACCE staff.

Averages, maximums and minimums for result data across multiple years are segmented into like organizations by dues income ranges as noted below*. Result data limited to the 2007 year shows an overall average and separate averages for the ten highest and ten lowest numbers for each segment.

354 chambers of commerce responded to the survey, yielding a 30% response rate.

• 93 chambers have less than $200,000
• 129 chambers have between $200,000 and $499,000
• 63 chambers have between $500,000 and $1,000,000
• 69 chambers have over $1 million

Printing

• Make sure you have the desired dues volume row selected, prior to printing slide.
• Most pages will print on a single, portrait oriented page using Internet Explorer's default print settings. Changing your browser's page orientation to landscape will allow for a larger print area.
